A recent report by Virginia’s Healthcare Workforce Data Center projects that the state will by short 2,700 doctors by 2020. According to the American Medical News, Virginia is not retaining doctors who come here to train.

Carilion Clinic Graduate Medical Education is expanding to better meet the need in Southwest Virginia. Carilion just received a $1.9 million dollar grant to expand the training of primary care physicians, and was just notified of the approval of new fellowships in Cardiology and Critical Care. The Emergency Medicine residency program was recently accredited.
